In the early there was considerable debate, particularly in the UK, around the rise of Jamaican reggaeton and dancehall music and the perceived sexism and homophobia in the lyrics, particularly the 1988 dancehall hit Boom Bye by Buju Banton, which advocated the murder of gay men. This clip is from a music programme in the UK called The Word, presented by Mark Lamarr (who went on to present Nevermind the Buzzcocks before Simon Amstell took over). In this video from 1992, they interviewing Jamaican dancehall musician Shabba Ranks, a well known supporter of Buju Banton, and talking about the homophobia controversy. It short, but Shabba makes his views on gays very well known, and the place turns on him.
